Seed Library

Our goal of the seed library is to not only to offer free seeds suitable for our Vermont climate, but to also encourage local gardeners to save seeds for future generations and build community.

We have also received generous seed donations from local Monkton gardeners and been saving seeds from the wildflowers planted in the Pollinator Garden in front of the library.  Right now the seed library is full of vegetables, flowers and herbs.  Come check it out!

What is a seed library?
It’s an organized collection of seeds from which users may “check out” small amounts of seeds to take home and plant.

Why do we have a seed library?
Seed libraries benefit the community by providing free seeds to library patrons.  We have been fortunate to receive a donation of seeds from High Mowing Organic Seeds from Wolcott, VT.  High Mowing Seeds offers 100% Non-GMO certified organic seed.

HOW TO USE SEED LIBRARY:

1- Search through the seed catalog in the library.

2- Choose which seed packets best suit your needs

3- Open the seed packet carefully and dispense the seeds you need into the seed envelopes.  We will provide envelopes and pens to record the seed information on the packet.

Take what you need.

Russell Memorial Library encourages you to learn to save your seeds and aim to bring back seeds to help our small seed library grow.  We will be offering a Seed Saving Workshop this fall!!

Report Back!  Let us know how your seeds are doing!
