Board Games

We have added a new collection to our library: Games for Check-out!

Available games are now located at the circulation desk.

You can learn more about our titles on by looking them up on BoardGameGeek.

At RML we believe games should be for everyone, but we understand that parents may want some idea of game content and complexity before introducing new games to their kids. With that in mind, we have marked recommended age groups clearly on each game box along with the number of players needed to play and how long an average game takes. These stats were taken from the boxes or the makers’ websites and do not follow any formal rating system. If you’re unsure whether the game would be suitable for your family, chat with the assistant librarian to learn more.

Our board games are available to check out for two weeks at a time, just the same as with books.

If you’d like to learn more about tabletop games:

Board Game Geek – the Wikipedia of tabletop games, written by and for fans. Beware newcomers, for there is a LOT of text and jargon thrown out on the main page.

SU&SD Reviews – a couple of Brits who play a lot of games and create elaborate video and text reviews for them. There are also some tutorials, some gameplay videos, and, oddly, some recipes?

Geek & Sundry’s Table Top – a YouTube show where very entertaining people (actors, comedians, internet personalities, etc) play board games on camera. A great, entertaining way to learn about new games and see how the gameplay works.

Geek & Sundry’s How To Play and The Rules Girl– are exactly what they sounds like. Sick of wading through written directions? Scroll through these playlists to see if you can find a video version of your game’s handbook.

Learn about some historic board games here. There are even instructions for how to make your own versions of these games at home!

Thank you to Cheapass Games for their generous donations which make up at least half our collection! If you like their games, you can buy them at the Tinker and Smithy Game Store, or from Cheapass’s own website.
